While it’s time to enjoy the pleasant temperatures of spring, summer is right around the corner and soon you’ll be blasting the air conditioning. But after a long period of being off, is your system ready to handle the heat?
At Tindall & Ranson, we’re here to help you maintain the perfect level of comfort in your home. Since you’ll want to keep cool this summer, here’s a few signs that your cooling system needs a tune up:
If you feel warm air coming from the vents when you have it set to cool, or the air coming out isn’t as strong as usual, it could indicate that you have a clogged filter, or the system could be leaking refrigerant.
If there’s a musty smell that takes over the room when you turn the air on, it could mean that you have mildew or mold in your system. If you smell a burning odor, it could be an electrical issue with your system.
Air conditioners tend to make noises regardless of whether there’s an issue or the system is in top shape. However, if there’s grinding, banging, or squealing noises, it could indicate issues like worn belts or loose components.
Generally, winter is prone to higher energy bills due to running the heat. But if you’re noticing that your energy bills are spiking higher than normal, it may mean that your system isn’t efficient and working hard than usual, causing your energy bills to spike.
If your system is short cycling constantly while it’s on, it could mean that there are either issues with the thermostat or issues with the airflow with potential blockages or restrictions.
When you see water pooling around your air conditioner unit, it could indicate that there’s a refrigerant leak or a blocked drain.
It’s generally recommended that you get your system inspected and tuned up at least once a year. It helps with identifying potential issues that could lead to damage and costly repairs.
An HVAC technician can inspect your system, lines, and vents to see if there’s any wear or obstructions and provide maintenance on the spot which not only helps you avoid further issues down the line but helps protect your system and keeps it running efficiently for longer.
Now that the temperatures are warming up and soon, you’ll be relying heavily on your air conditioning to keep your home cool, make sure that the system is ready by scheduling an inspection and tune up.
Taking care of your system early on will help it perform at its best, avoid costly issues, and keep it running smoothly and efficiently all summer long.
