As we roll into the dog days of summer, with its relentless humidity and sweltering temperatures, it’s important to see if you air conditioning is functioning properly, or if you need AC repair or to replace the unit completely. Is your AC struggling this summer?
At Tindall & Ranson, we can help you identify issues that are preventing your AC unit from performing at its best, and see if the issues require minor repairs, or if it needs to be replaced entirely.
Like most machines, your AC unit has components that can break down after prolonged usage. Below are some signs to look out for that indicate you may need to schedule air conditioning repair:
If your unit is struggling to put out consistent cool air, it could indicate that there are issues with the fan, or you may have clogged filters.
Do certain rooms in your house feel warmer than others, despite your air conditioning being set to a specific temperature? It could mean that you have issues with the ductwork, or you could have a faulty thermostat.
If you hear rattling, buzzing, or there are musty smells flowing through the vents, you could have some minor mechanical issues or mold could be present.
Water buildup or leaking could be caused by a clogged tube or refrigerant, which can easily be fixed.
If your AC unit is turning off and on repeatedly, it could be the result of a failing capacitor or an issue with a sensor.
While most issues with your air conditioning unit can easily be fixed, there are a few signs that unfortunately indicate that your AC unit is on its way out. Here’s what to notice:
If your unit is 10+ years old, it could indicate that its days are numbered. You’ll typically notice a lack of efficiency and repeated breakdowns.
When you notice that you’re your energy bills are increasing, it means that your unit is working harder to maintain the temperature.
If you’re constantly calling an HVAC contractor for repairs to your AC unit, it may be time to replace the unit instead of spending money on regular repairs.
Routine repairs and maintenance is fine, but if you’re noticing the cost increasing, it means more important components are needing to be replaced and your money may be better well spent on a new unit.
New refrigerants being used in modern units are causing older ones to be phased out. If your unit isn’t compatible with modern refrigerants, it may be time to upgrade.
If you notice some of these signs, whether they indicate needed repairs, or a replacement, you may want to have your unit inspected by a certified technician. When the time comes, you can look to us at Tindall & Ranson to inspect your unit and help you decide whether repairs will be enough, or if it’s time to get a new air conditioner.
